Masthead spinnaker fittings
Hi All
A note on a recent rig check recommended that I change the mast head fitting for the spinnaker halyard as the metalwork is starting to be pulled through the fixing bolts.
The current fitting is below which was taken when I had the mast lifted out a few years ago.
Looking at the fitting on several other boats showed their spinnaked halyards were fitted on a block by a U bolt as shown in the below photo.
Can I ask how other owners have the spinnaker halyard fitted at the masthead?
Many thanks

Re: Masthead spinnaker fittings
Hi Andy - apologies for the slow response to your question. I also have spinnaker halyard retro fitted to the front of the mast head. My mast (V30) has two M8 u-bolts that have been slightly bent outwards to clear the mast and bolted through the overhanging section of aluminium plate. I have standard Barton blocks attached and run a Code 0 type asymmetric sail. There have been no issues,
Also, on the back of the mast I have a retro fitted block attached to a hole that has been drilled in the aluminium. It looks only 5mm or so and i think undersized. Now I use only for topping lift, but in the future would like to increase the strength/size of the fittings so i can use for a second mainsail halyard. The bolted plate in your photo looks like a good solution for me.
Apologies i don't have a photo to hand (as that would be so much clearer) but hope the above description clear and useful.
best wishes
Andrew
