Sail Dimensions Victoria 30

Can anyone tell me the sail dimensions of the Victoria 30 please. I need the I, J, P, E lengths in order to obtain quotes for new sails on my boat.

Thanks you

Tim

Re: Sail Dimensions Victoria 30

Tim I took some measurements today. Pin to pin my forestay is 37ft 4inches.  From gooseneck to the pin for the back stay is 31ft 9inches. From the same pin to the deck is 35ft. Boom is 12ft. I pulled the tape pretty tight but I’m sure I will be an inch or so out over official measurements. The forestay could be out a couple of inches because I don’t know how the mast was setup for rake etc but there is still leeway for adjustments in the bottle screws . Hope this helps

Re: Sail Dimensions Victoria 30

I have found a blueprint from Chuck Paine on the boat that was done for a previous owner looking to convert the Victoria 30 to cutter rig. The actual boat is the Morris 30 but obviously Paine is using the same rig dimensions . I also have one with a bow sprit added if anyone wants a copy. The files are too big for this format but I would be happy to email them to anyone who is interested .

Allan, please contact me via web@victoriashadow.co.uk and I'll work out how the Association can host the files for members.

Re: Sail Dimensions Victoria 30

Just a thought on ordering sails by dimension from another boat.

I purchased Nanooq just prior to covid hitting and only managed a test sail and a delivery sail from Loch Melfort down to Troon. On the test sail I couldn’t get any tension on the luff of the headsail and with binoculars assumed it was the fact there were two fairly long shackles at the halyard connection. Not helped by the fact that the halyard was wrapped round the mast (also preventing the mainsail from being fully tensioned) to free up the single mast mounted winch.

Anyway on the way to Troon I dropped the sail removed one shackle and re hoisted the sail. Still unable to get any tension and a bit confused about the strange wrinkling and weathering at the head of the sail I made do with it and left it to be investigated at Troon.
At Troon I dropped the sail again and measured it out, definitely too big!

Turns out that the original owner had requested a Profurl fuller with longer links to let the foot of the sail clear the life lines. All carefully documented in his original pre purchase survey. Basically the sail was replaced by the following owner with one of standard dimensions and has never been tensioned. The head of the sail has never been stretched out hence the staining and wrinkles.

The sail was sent of to Owen sails who declared it to be in good condition (well it’s never been under any tension!) who have recut it for me. It’s yet to be used as for family health reasons we have been out of the water since March 2020. With any luck we shall be back in Dunstaffnage this spring with sails that work.

Re: Sail Dimensions Victoria 30

I recently bought a No1 Jib second hand from a Westerly Konsort.  I fit it on an inner Forestay and it works really well.  I haven't tried it yet but I'm planning to use it so I can set 2 headsails downwind.

Re: Sail Dimensions Victoria 30

I measured Mine today
Main; Luff 9.32m, foot 3.7m.  Top 2 battens are full length Luff to leach.
Genoa; Luff 10.42m, Foot 5.2m, Leach 9.75m.
They were made by Jeckells for Alex Stevenson for the boat Ibis.  I'm sure they could make to the same dimensions if you told them that.  My only issue is that the 3rd reef which is 3.93m up the luff leaves me with a lot of sail if its blowing hard.
