cruising chute on Victoria 800 bowsprit

I am trying to find a way to fix a u bolt to the end if my bowsprit to enable a swivel block attachment for the foot of a chute.  The cranse has a plate 50mm width which is ideal to clamp a u bolt with two plates as clamps.  However I cannot find a u bolt that has an internal diameter greater than 50mm and that also has plates.  Hope I am making myself clear!  Any suggestions welcome.

Have you tried Seascrew (www.seascrew.com). They seem to have a 316 s/s u bolt with 65mm hole centres and it has plates.

Thank you Alastair, they have some with 60mm which will do nicely.  Had not come across them so will add to my bookmarks.

I've used them a lot and found them very helpful and quick. It's great to be able to buy just a couple of bolts rather than a plastic prepack!

I keep looking at the cranse iron from Classic Marine with an extra hole, for the same purpose!

These also have the advantage of being rather thicker than the original galvanised ones, so don't dig into the wood of the bowsprit over the years.

The bronze cranse looks great but nothing wrong with mine so cost not justified.  Have now fitted a u bolt clamped around the cranse.  Looks fine and projects about 10cm forward of the end of the bowsprit which is no bad thing as it allows good clearance from the yankee furler.  Have yet to test in anger.

Re: cruising chute on Victoria 800 bowsprit

I am considering how best to use a chute and what size to buy. The cranse shown looks like a good solution and when I next go to the boat I will measure up. However, my existing one looks like it’s been glued on so might be a major job removing it, how are others fitted. Also, I would be interested to see any pics of a “U” bolt solution. Thank you.

A photo of my solution.  I have to tell you that it as yet intested in anger!  It's a bit of a stretch from the deck to attach the shackle and turning block so I will be mousing a shackle in place and bring a tack line back inboard to on of the forward deck cleats.  I am struggling to reduce the jpg. size so apologies for the one photo.  1624386544_20210622_153715.jpg

Re: cruising chute on Victoria 800 bowsprit

I am looking for suggestions for fitting aft turning blocks for my cruising chute clew lines on my V800.  Is the pushpit strong enough as the most forward pushpit stanchion looks ideally placed?  I could possibly lash a block to the aft cleat but this pulls the lead of the line across the pushpit upright due to the canoe stern.  The toe rail does not look as though I could insert a backing plate and I do not want to clutter the cockpit coaming as it makes a convenient seat at times.
Suggestions please.
