Replacing saloon/cabin lamps on a V34
Having finally done this, I thought I'd share the knowledge.
Blue Opal came to me with Cantalupi ROGER fittings in the saloon and master cabin. These are fittings with spring-loaded wings, much like you might find used in a house with plasterboard ceilings. I find the wings to be an utter pain, and a lack of attention can result in the wing snapping down on your finger as you try to remove the housing to change the bulb. Also, after 20 years, the metal pins that the springs are fitted to has weakened, and several of the springs came completely free of the housing when I removed the fitting in 2018 to fit G4 bulbs.
Boatlamps.co.uk were able to recomment the Cantalupi DIANA 85 as a suitable replacement. These fittings fit the cutout in the wooden trim perfectly, and three #4 screws fix the housing to the wood. A metal fascia then screws on with a half-twist to cover all of the plastic and screws.
Some details here and here with photos. Overall, I think the job took me about 4 hours to change out 10 fittings - I was initially drilling a pilot for the #4 screws, but then realised they were self-tapping and all it took was a bit of pressure to get them to bite.
