Staysail track details for a cutter rigged Frances 26.

I am converting my fractional sloop rigged Frances 26, to a masthead cutter rig, with a removable inner forestay. Does anyone have any photos of the staysail track position on the deck, or any sail plan ?

Bill - typically the F26 cutter has a self tacking staysail, with a boom on the inner forestay, and sheeted through two eye's on the deck.   If you want further dimensions and photos of this arrangement then let me know and I will email them.

Occasionally you will see a cutter with sheet tracks on the coach roof (eg True Glory).

This thread might be of interest - https://www.victoriashadow.co.uk/forum/ … p?pid=1661

I am not sure if Tobias moved to a non self-tackingl sheeting arrangement on Frances Josephine.   Might be worth an email.

Re: Staysail track details for a cutter rigged Frances 26.

Hi Jonathan,
Thank you for your your reply.
Inyoni had an endless line Genoa furler, and a self tacking boom on a plinth.  I have scrapped both the existing furler and the self tacking boom. Pity that I am so far from the UK, as other V26 owners may be interested in some of this stuff, which I would give away.  The previous owner had rolled the Genoa with the u/v strip on the inside, and ruined the sail. I am going to install a Harken furler, and a new, tan bark, masthead Genoa.

I do not like self tacking booms, so that is not an option for the staysail, but I do still have the two pad eyes, so perhaps I could use those with blocks and turning blocks to lead the sheets back to the cockpit. The staysail will be small, so I may be able to handle it without winches. In stronger winds, when the Genoa is rolled away, the Genoa winches would in any case be available.  A track on the coach roof would necessitate two winches up there, and lines under the dodger, not something I will not do.

I may well build a nesting two piece, Danny Greene designed, Chameleon dinghy, which will fit on the foredeck between the mast and the inner forestay. The staysail would then stow in a bag on top of the dinghy.

I am currently 3 weeks into a major refit of Inyoni. New  Beta 16, new instruments and wiring, removal of the teak deck and cap rail, painting, plumbing, varnishing new paraffin stove, a fridge, new anchors, chain and windlass, canvass work, the change to a masthead cutter, and new standing rigging, the Navik wind vane.  A lot of work, but she is long overdue for some serious talc.
