Corrosion in rudder lever arm assembly on tiller steered V30

Puffin has recently undergone a routine survey for insurance purposes, and I asked the surveyor to inspect corrosion on an arm which I thought formed part of the linkage in the steerage system and, therefore, important.   The surveyor has reported that the arm only serves a purpose for the wheel steered V30 and could, therefore, be disconnected on the tiller steered Puffin with no adverse consequence.
I am nervous of giving the instruction to disconnect, just in case it turns out that the arm does serve some purpose, and would be very grateful if someone could confirm either way.

The tiller on a V30 is not directly connected to the rudder stock it is attached to a stainless steel shaft attached at the rear of the cockpit in a bearing and the bottom of the shaft is attached to a bearing glassed into the hull this has a tiller arm on it which is then joined to another tiller arm which is attached to the separate rudder stock. the movements of the tiller are transferred to the rudder by these links.

It maybe that you have additional tiller arms on either one of the shafts in which case they would be superfluous but you certainly need one on each stainless stock.
