Members, and guests, to the Association website, will wish to be aware of an article, by David Harding, in the March 2015 edition of Practical Boat Owner www.pbo.co.uk which discusses, and illustrates, the long keel, appealing lines, big boat feel, and surprisingly roomy interior incorporated within the Frances 26, which makes her such a sought-after second hand buy.

The boat reviewed in the article is GRAYLING owned by Mike Hall and his wife Clare, and is berthed near Bristol.  Chuck Paine describes her thus; “the original Frances is an imperfect, classic design.  She’s comparable in many ways to an MG TD…  They spewed oil and weren’t very fast by today’s standards, but they were so cute and stylish that owners have enjoyed every minute of their use for decades.”  David Harding’s verdict is that “with GRAYLING, her owners have come as close as is possible to imbuing a 26-footer with the elegance, character and feel of a 40ft offshore cruising yacht.  It’s a rare 26-footer that allows anyone to do that.”

When Mike purchased GRAYLING in 2012 she was sound and clearly had potential, but would need an awful lot of work to bring her back to a condition which would meet his requirements.  The story of that transformation will be included in next month’s Practical Boat Owner.
