V34 Emergency Tiller

Hi
I bought “Pintail” a V34 at the end of last year. Another problem I havd found is that the emergency tiller is missing.

Can anyone throw some light on how I can either buy one or have one fabricated. Also does anyone a photo of an original?

Thanks in advance
Rob

Re: V34 Emergency Tiller

Hi Rob, on my V34, the emergency tiller is effectively aluminium tube cut and welded making a right-angle. The section that goes over the top of the rudder shaft (passing it through the aft cockpit seat aperture) has a stainless steel bolt that goes through the emergency tiller and rudder shaft which locks in in place. Nothing very complex.
Not sure of I will be up at the boat this weekend, but can take some photos and measurements for you within the next week or so if that's any use?

Thanks.

Charlie.

Re: V34 Emergency Tiller

To my rescue again Charlie, its much appreciated. Don’t make any special trip but some photos and measurements would be a godsend, thank you. Ive looked high and low online and I can’t find anything.
All the best

Re: V34 Emergency Tiller

If anyone with a wheel steered V30 has pictures of their emergency tiller, I'd appreciate that too.

Sabbatical came with a thick heavy stainless steel shaft with a tube that fits over the rudder head (secured with a bolt) through a small hatch in the cockpit floor. The top has a taper, thread and keyway (similar to an oversize prop shaft) but the tiller and head fitting are absent. I am looking for a pattern or some idea of the original to copy.

Failing that maybe I can use Charlie's measurements and pictures to fabricate a complete replacement (although something that folds or was in 2 pieces would be easier to stow onboard).

Thx

Simon

Re: V34 Emergency Tiller

Hi Rob,
I was up at the yacht yesterday and brought home the emergency tiller.
It isn't anything fancy, but does the trick I guess.
The rudder shaft must be 1.25" (I haven't measured it, but just going by the inside diameter of the emergency rudder).
I trust that this helps.
All the best.
Charlie.

The dimensions are included within the following photos.
