Tracker

"Tracker" is Jerry Bottrill's Victoria 30 and recently it came to the attention of the Website Editor that she had taken part in the 2008 Round The Island Race. Not only had she taken part and completed the course but had actually done rather well.

The only photographs we had to hand of "Tracker" and Jerry were taken at the 2006 and 2008 rallies to Cowes. Jerry always tries to support the Association rallies and this year he actually organised the rally itself.

To discover more of The Round The Island Race, I contacted Jerry and I can do no better than reproduce his account here.

"We had a very good race in almost perfect conditions for the boat.

Summary of results as follows.

On corrected time we finished overall in position 169 out of I believe 1548
boats that completed the course.

That was position 51 in our division, 14 in our group and 1st in the Victoria section.

Overall laps time was 9 hours 23 minutes.

We were very pleased with the result after a very hard days racing. The boat performed impeccably well and the self draining cockpit works very efficiently!

I collected the Victoria Cup from the club on the Sunday, although I attended the prize giving this is not formally presented at the main presentation with the other cups. I don't know why. Perhaps we can do something about this in the future to uplift the impact of our association and this prestigious award!

The cup is now well polished and located on the mantle piece at home."
