Roy Dawkins is
one of our more senior members who has sailed his Frances 26,
'Felicity' for many years.
Now, 'Felicity'
is usually to be found at The Gosport Marina, previously Camper and
Nicholson's Marina in Portsmouth Harbour. Roy decided it was time to
round Selsey Bill and sail eastwards for the first time.
Unfortunately,
the weather was not very kind and the departure had to be delayed and
one of Roy's two crew jumped ship. Eventually, sail was set and a
lively ride ensued. The other crew member probably thought you could
have too much of a good thing and slipped ship as well.
Roy's enforced
stop at Brighton enabled him to catch up with some of those little
jobs to be found aboard any ship.
In due course
and with a fair wind, Roy headed homeward. The light wind soon failed
completely resulting in a longish passage time of ten and a half
hours.
Not at all
daunted by the experience, Roy is now looking at other more distant
ports and for extra crew members! |
