Volante

Volante is a cutter rigged Victoria 800, built by Victoria Yachts in 1996, and was the second Victoria 800 to be launched from the Stone Pier Yard.

Peter and Joy are the first owners and were able to specify her construction based on their experience with other yachts.  These non standard requirements included a three blade propeller and a non self tacking staysail without a jack boom.  When a rope got caught on the rudder, resulting in the rudder being lost, Peter added a small moulding on the end of the keel to ensure that this could not happen again. He has also carried out a number of other modifications, including improved engine access, and stronger bow sprit fittings.

Volante is based at the Benfleet Yacht Club in the Thames Estuary.  During the winter she is laid up ashore under a fitted cover and during the season moored against a jetty, as Benfleet Creek dries. Peter and Joy sail Volante on the East Coast and southern North Sea.  Volante is surprisingly fast and a real little ship, which oozes confidence when the wind picks up.
