Raven

Ian and Nan Gray have bought a sloop-rigged Victoria 34 that has spent the last seven years ashore in Dublin.

The boat, formerly known as 'Katey Dedalus II', has been renamed 'Raven' and delivered to the Clyde Marina at Ardrossan.

Now, 'Raven' requires a bit of a refit, which will keep Ian and Nan busy for the time being. She is being re-engined and the drive to the propeller shaft is being modified. The cutlass bearing, the rudder and the tiller all need serious attention and there are plans for work of a more cosmetic nature as well.

Ian has said he will document  the work and take photographs, so we might get a supplement to our Technical Manual!

Once finished, 'Raven' will be based at Dunstaffnage Bay near Oban. The plan, see opposite, was borrowed from the Dunstaffnage Marina's website and The Wide Mouthed Frog is the name of the restaurant!

 Try www.dunstaffnagemarina.co.uk.

There is a photograph, on the Marina's website, of their boatlift and isn't that a Frances 26 in the slings?

I know we would like to have seen a 'before' photograph of 'Raven' but Ian says,

"Photo' will be sent when refit complete."

I'm sure all of the members would like to wish Ian and Nan every success with their refit. They can be contacted at

Photographs of Raven can now be seen on Raven's new web page mb_Raven_2009.html.
