The Victoria Shadow Association

Jack Nesbitt

Update received via Dick Walters on the 17th December 2006

Hello all and Seasons Greetings. I've received an email from Alan giving an update on their saga.

They've nearly finished a large maintenance and upgrade schedule, including new standing rigging, new fuel lines and filter system, all new plumbing for the propane supply, new wind generator, new solar panel, etc - all their own work execpt for rigging. Oh, and completely rebuilt the old fridge box (they learned a lot from that - don't ask!)

They expect to leave San Francisco in a few days and head south for Mexico for the rest of the winter, planning to start the Pacific crossing in April.

Kind regards, Dick

The last time we heard from Sally and Alan was on the 20th November 2004

Greetings from Antioch, California.

We thought we should make contact with the Association, as we have rather fallen out of touch.  Olive Hathaway will probably be able to fill you in on our more distant history, but for the record we came into this quaint riverside town some three years ago, intending to stay for a couple of nights and here we still are.  In summary, we have been pinned down as Sally's youngest sister was diagnosed with cancer and has only just lost a brave three-year battle in New Zealand.  We did not want to set off across oceans and be unable to respond to family needs so we have remained tied to the dock.

That chapter has drawn to a close and we now can return to cruising but have decided to spend most of the next year in this area, where we have made so many good friends.  We hope to set off for Mexico in October 2005 and over-winter there before commencing the Pacific crossing around April 2006.

Our Victoria 34 "Jack Nesbitt", which has been our home since 1994, continues to serve us really well though has done little hard work these last few years.  Despite being on so many different boats, large and small in so many different countries, we still have no wish to change our boat.  All the members may like to know that we still receive compliments about the boat, something that has happened throughout our cruising years.

Just for the record please pass on our apologies for absence at the A.G.M. and our best wishes to all our friends who may be there.

Regards, Sally and Alan Smith
