Rating or handicap for a Frances 26

Dear members,

As we are participating in a coming race, I'm looking for the handicap or rating for my Grace Darling. She's a Frances 26, sloop rigged.

Re: Rating or handicap for a Frances 26

Hi,

I have found one sailing club's reference to the Frances 26 which puts it at a rating of 1099 (Portsmouth Yardstick)
Please see the extract below.

1099    Frances 26    L    ib2        13.29    6.18

KEY :
L = Long Keel
ib2 = Inboard Diesel with 2 bladed fixed prop
13.29 is the sail/displacement ratio they have used (I'm a little suspicious of this as I had understood that my cutter version had a S/D ratio of 17.54 which is very different !)

6.18 is the theoretical hull speed used

I hope this helps a bit - although it all seems a bit of a dark art !

Re: Rating or handicap for a Frances 26

Hi Marc

If it is of any help my time correction factor for Round the Island Race was 0.874. This is calculated with a three bladed non-folding prop, sail measurements and sailing displacment.

The mast headed slop rigs appear to have a taller mast than the cutter rigs. My sail measurements are:
Main
P=9.3m, E=3.6m, MHW=2.08, MTW=1.15 giving a sail area of 18.80m2

Genoa
LL=9.72m, LP=3.86 giving an area of 18.16m2

I had guesstimated a sailing displacement (cruising weight) of 3760kg

I would be interested to know if you have similar sail measurements.

Regards
Andy
