Frances 34 Pilothouse/V34 Mast Boot

Does anyone know of a good solution to replace an original, but leaky mast boot for a F34/V34 with the mast standing???

I am pretty useless at DIY stuff, but happy to have a go.  Any suggestions welcome.

Re: Frances 34 Pilothouse/V34 Mast Boot

John - when mine started to crack (F26) I patched it using Sikaflex which lasted well.   When the mast was next out I then changed it to a new boot from a rig supplier (somebody like Allspars should be able to supply).

If they are larger cracks/holes then you could Sikaflex on patches from car innertubes - or you could make up a coat/new boot from an innertube and glue it together with Sikaflax.   This should last well enough until the next time the mast is out.

Re: Frances 34 Pilothouse/V34 Mast Boot

Hi John,
I fixed my gaiter with self amalgamating tape, use the widest tape you can get hold off, I found some two inch in the chandlers. I finished off the edges and ends with a bit of rubber glue from my bike puncture kit. This advice was given to me by our local Selden dealer as I had left it to late to replace the gaiter and did not wish to unstep the mast for this job alone.
