East Coast Spring Rally 2018

Victoria Shadow Association Spring Rally
Saturday March 24th 2018

Dear All,

This year the East Coast Spring Rally will take place at Chatham Maritime Marina, Leviathan Way, Chatham ME4 4LP

Peter and I will be there from 12 noon onwards and we have made arrangements for everyone arriving by boat to be moored together on the guest pontoon where we will also have Jenny Wren. The pontoon is just inside the lock to the left and very easy to find.

A table has been booked for dinner at the Ship and Trades dining pub at 8.30pm. The venue is only a 10 minute or so walk from the marina but to break up this tiresome journey we propose a visit to Copper Rivet Distillery, which is en route, for a tour and tasting session for those of us so inclined. The tour start time is 7pm and it will last an hour in total so still time to get the beers in and peruse the menu at the Ship and Trades afterwards.
If you would like to take this tour you will need to book directly with Copper Rivet, the cost per person is £12 and you can book online at www.copperrivetdistillery.com, alternatively their phone number is 01634 931122. Presently they are only taking bookings up to the end of February but March will be added soon.

If you prefer not to tour the distillery there will be nibbles and wine on the pontoon, feel free to bring a bottle along! If you are likely to need help with transit to the Ship and Trades from the marina do get in touch and let us know beforehand.

Should you wish to stay overnight there are two options within easy walking distance, one of which is the pub we are dining at. The details for both are;

Ship and Trades
Chatham Maritime
St Mary’s Island
01634 895200
The cost of a double room is £100 per night.

Travelodge Chatham Maritime
Western Avenue
Chatham Historic Dockyard
08715 591878
The cost of a standard room is £62, with breakfast and Wifi it’s £81.50
The Travelodge is 0.5 miles/ a 10 minute walk from the marina and 0.4 miles/an 8 minute walk from the Ship and Trades according to Google Maps

First of all, please note that the landmark of Grain power station chimney, at the entrance to the Medway, is no more!
The route from Sheerness to Chatham marina is well marked and should take, depending on tide, about 90 minutes. Be aware of heavy shipping at Sheerness and transiting the Medway up to Chatham.
When you reach port hand mark 32 bouy, the distance remaining to the marina entrance is half a mile. This is a good point to contact the marina office on channel 80 to arrange a lock in. The lock is roomy, if you have a preference for mooring port side or starboard let the office know, they are usually very accommodating.
Access is 24hr with 1.5m over the sill at LWS.

Marina facilities.

All pontoons have water and electric. Fuel and gas are available within the marina and there is a laundry in the shower block. Chatham facilities are blessed with a good number of ‘family’ rooms, pretty much everyone uses these, the smaller showers in the toilet areas are rarely used. Access to the ablutions from the visitor pontoon is via a pin code entry gate. We’ll have the number scribbled down for you.
There are two chandlers a short drive from the marina should you have need.

Directly outside of the marina there is a cafe, a Co-op store, a fish and chip shop, lots of restaurants, an outlet shopping centre and a cinema.

If you are planning to stay nearby, local attractions include the Historic Dockyard, Dickens World and Rochester’s Cathedral and castle.

If you would like to attend this event please let us know via alisonatvsa@gmail.com so that we can confirm numbers for the table at Ship and Trades.  If you want a mooring reserved for the event, give us your name, the name of you vessel and its length and we will ensure there is a place kept for you.

We look forward to meeting you soon, hopefully in better weather!
Warm regards,
Peter and Alison Child

Re: East Coast Spring Rally 2018

Owing to so many folks planning to drive to this event, and needing to leave earlier, Pete and I have arranged to borrow the marinas marquee to throw a buffet at 3pm as an additional event, all other arrangements are still in place also. we'll make sure to have some nibbles and drink but if anyone wants to contribute to the table that would be wonderful. Particularly anything liquid!
